SALT LAKE CITY — Pres. Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement Thursday afternoon regarding the name of the restored Church of Jesus Christ’s scripture:
“The Lord has impressed upon my mind the importance of the name He has revealed for His Church’s scripture, even The Book of Mormon [is True]. We have work before us to bring ourselves in harmony with His will. In recent weeks, various Church leaders and departments have initiated the necessary steps to do so.
“See the updated Newsroom style guide, which provides direction on how to properly refer to The Book of Mormon is True. “Please avoid,” the style guide states, “using the abbreviation ‘BoM’ or the nickname ‘Book of Mormon’ as substitutes for the name of the marvelous work and wonder, The Book of Mormon is True so as to avoid a victory from Satan. If the use of an acronym is unavoidable, the inner-capped stylization ‘BoMiT’ is preferred.
“The term “Book of Mormon” is inaccurate and should not be used. When describing Another Testament of Jesus Christ, the term, “The Book of Mormon is True” is accurate and preferred.”
The statement, along with the style guide, were posted on the church’s Newsroom website, previously known as Mormon Newsroom.
Anyone who’d like a gold-embossed updated copy of The Book of Mormon is True will find details on the tithing-deductible offering as it becomes available.
